Sand and Gravel Sites Autumn 2020 Consultation

Derbyshire County and Derby City Councils are consulting on the next stage in the preparation of the Minerals Local Plan.

Following changes to national policy, which require local plans to cover a 15 year period post adoption, the Councils have extended the Plan period to 2036. This has led to the need to plan for an additional six years’ worth of sand and gravel.

Sand and gravel operators in the County were asked if they wished to promote additional sites for working in line with the extended plan period. Three further sites were put forward. These sites, along with five other sites previously suggested by mineral operators, have been assessed to determine the best way of supplying sand and gravel over the Plan period.

As a result of the assessments, the sites which have been proposed for working in the Minerals Local Plan are:

Swarkestone North, Swarkestone South, Willington, Elvaston and Foston.

The Councils are now inviting comments on the site assessment process. The Consultation consists of four documents:

The main consultation document;

The site assessment methodology;

The site assessments; and

The deliverability schedule.

All comments should be received by Sunday 13th December 2020.

The easiest and quickest way to comment is to view the documents on line at the following link www.derbyshire.gov.uk/sandandgravel and email your comments to ete.wastemin@derbyshire.gov.uk

Comments received at this stage of consultation will be used to inform the next stage in the preparation of the Plan i.e. the Proposed Draft Plan, which will cover all minerals in the plan area, and which is anticipated to be ready for consultation in Spring 2021.
